What experience do I need to be successful in an online teaching job?

We welcome applications from everyone interested in an online teaching job, whether you have previous teaching experience or not. Many teachers make the transition from the physical classroom to online, but many online teachers arrive with no previous teaching experience.

An interest in learning is always good to see. Maybe you coach a local sports team, or you’re a new parent or grandparent?

Whatever your experience, if you love helping people better understand the world around them, you could have what it takes to be a great online English teacher and to be successful in an online teaching job.

Do I need a TEFL to teach English online?

TEFL stands for “Teaching English as a Foreign Language”, and it is a standard certification for English teachers. You can start working on your certification while you apply, or our team is happy to share their knowledge of available courses.

To teach English with EF Teach Online you’ll need to have completed at least a 40- hour TEFL certificate from an accredited source. It should be a general certificate rather than a skills-specific version, for example, a TEFL in Grammar.
